VLCC Sweat Free Sun Defense Sunblock Lotion SPF 40 – Review

Hi gals..I know its been long since I did a post here… little busy with work n life! 🙂

Today’s review is going to be on – VLCC Sweat Free Sunblock Lotion SPF 40 from the Sun Defense Range.

Sample sachet i received

The “Sun Defense” range is the latest offering from VLCC for this summer.

I received a 30g tube from a friend of mine because she thought this lotion won’t go well with her oily skin.

I also got a mini-sample sachet from Stylecraze on a purchase. Have been using it for 2 weeks now and think its good time to review the product now.

Price: INR 95 for 30 g

It comes in a sunny yellow and white tube with an orange screw cap. The tube is attractive and easily noticeable amongst a bagful of tubes also.

Wish the tube came with a flip-open cap so that it would be more easy to handle. In a hurry, jostling with the screw cap is a put off.

The bigger one comes with a flip-flop lid, I think.

Only key ingredients are mentioned.

Avobenzone, Octocrylene, Titanium dioxide, Zinc oxide, Octyl methoxy cinnamate, Trehalose, Comfrey plant extract, Enantia chlorantha extract, Allantoin, Vitamin B3.

What the product claims:

This sunblock lotion provides broad spectrum protection from the sun’s UV rays.
A unique “Sweat Free” formulation that protects the skin from tanning and ageing. Enriched with Comfrey extract, its anti-irritant properties protect the skin against irritation & redness while the non-greasy formula lends a satin smooth feel to the skin.

From Google images (sorry i threw away mine)

The way I see it:

Though it is a sunblock lotion, it is a little creamier in consistency. It is neither runny or too thick.

The lotion is beige in color and carries a smell that of some herbal oil.

I find the smell to be a little gingery too. A big no from me from the fragrance point of view!

It spreads easily upon application & gets absorbed easily on the skin.

It has SPF 40 and PA +++ formulation & suitable for all skin types – good for Indian summers!

When you apply a little of the product, it suits the skin quite fine. A little more of the product makes the skin look greasy – an oil tanker in fact!

Once when I tried this product after a day cream – it made me look like an oil tanker again!

Then I had a closer look at the ingredients and found allantoin and vitamin B3 which are know for their hydrating properties. From then on I started using this lotion without a moisturiser it suited quite fine.

Coming to its claim on being sweat-free, it did fare to an extent on this front. I personally don’t sweat more but can say this product did reduce sweating in the hairline on the forehead to an extent.

When applied in limited quantities it works good as a sunscreen for the body – but as with other sunscreens apply liberally won’t be a mantra with this product!

The sun protection it offers is okay.

If it can make a normal-dry skin look greasy –  I cannot think of combination or oily skin using this lotion! It might cause breakouts though I didn’t get any.

Personally i prefer this product on my hands & legs than my face!

The ‘Yes’ factors:

  • Available easily
  • Impressive sun protection ingredients
  • Catchy packaging
  • SPF 40 / PA+++
  • Moisturising too

The ‘Nay’ factors:

  • Makes the skin feel greasy
  • Smells of herbal oil
  • Screw cap is fussy

HnB rating: 3/5

Repurchase? – Nope!

Recommend? – Stay away for all skin types!

Maybe you can try some other product from this range!

This “Sun Defense” range also includes sun protection gels, creams & souffle. Also there is an after sun-care range that includes – face wash, face scrub, soothing gel and face pack.

I am interested in picking a face wash or gel from this range though!
