TBS Sunday – The Body Shop Sweet Lemon Collection

Heyya people..We are gonna have The Body Shop (TBS) Sundays going forward in the blog here.

I am sure all of us love TBS products… I am quite a fan too 🙂

So, let’s directly jump on to the review for the day – 3 products from TBS Sweet Lemon Collection.

Review by Christina.

Best for normal to dry skin.

Like most women, I too love products from TBS. Sometimes I feel it’s the packaging and sometimes I feel it’s the brand. Whatever your reason, it’s hard to find someone who can quite resist the urge to own at least one product from TBS. I’d like to start my TBS reviews with my favourite range – Sweet Lemon.

Citrus limetta is a species of citrus. One of the more common names for varieties of this species includes sweet lemon. Its peel contains essential oil that is high in anti-oxidants and Vitamin C. It helps moisturise and soften the skin.

1. TBS SWEET LEMON BODY BUTTER

Price: INR 995

Quantity: 200 ml

What the product claims:This rich and creamy Body Butter is a feast for the skin. It melts straight in to leave skin feeling soft and smooth. It contains Community Fair Trade shea butter and smells of fresh lemon. Massage into skin. Be generous! It works even better straight after a bath or shower.

  • Great for normal to dry skin
  • Fresh lemon scent
  • 24 –hour hydration
Ingredients:
Aqua, Butyrospermum Parkii, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycine Soja Oil, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, PEG-100 Stearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil, Cyclohexasiloxane, Citrus Medica Limonum Seed Oil, Lanolin Alcohol, Phenethyl Alcohol, Limonene, Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Parfum, Xanthan Gum, Citral, Disodium EDTA, Tocopherol, Sodium Hydroxide, Linalool, Caramel, CI 19140.
The way I see it:

It comes in a plastic tub and the butter is thick and light cream in color.

I love the way it feels when it goes on the body. I use it while my skin is still damp from a shower. It is especially necessary to moisturize your skin when you use a body scrub. I use it everywhere except on my face.
It smells nice and does not feel heavy and sticky. Seeps into the skin nicely without a lot of effort.
You don’t need too much, with regular use you will figure out the apt amount for your body.
The scent is just amazing. Nothing like citrus in the atmosphere to freshen you up after a tired day.

2. TBS SWEET LEMON BODY SCRUB

Price: INR 995

Quantity: 200 ml

What the product claims:This exfoliating body scrub contains real lemon seed oil and peel. It lifts away dead skin cells and has a zesty citrus scent. Use in the bath or shower. Apply to damp skin in a circular motion, then rinse thoroughly. Use two times a week for best results.

  • Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth
  • Radiant and delicately scented
  • Stimulates skin microcirculation
  • Zesty citrus scent

Ingredients:

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Sucrose, Sodium Chloride, Helianthus Annuus Hybrid Oil, Silica, Citrus Medica Limonum Seed Oil, Glycine Soja Oil, Limonene, Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil, Parfum, Citrus Medica Limonum Peel, Juglans Regia Shell Powder, Citral, CI 19140.

The way I see it:
The tub packaging is very pretty. The bottom is transparent and the top is opaque.
For those of you who still do not have a ‘Body Scrub’ well, a loofah will do the trick, but you know a bit of luxury never hurts anyone.
The down side is that you have to dip into the tub to get the product out. If your hands are wet then you will get water into the tub so I would suggest u keep a small plastic spoon in it.
Massaging your skin with a scrub in circular movements helps remove dead skin cells and boosts circulation prepping your skin to better absorb your trusty moisturizer post your shower.

3. TBS SWEET LEMON SHOWER GEL

Price: INR 395
Quantity: 250 ml
What the product claims:This soap-free shower gel contains real lemon seed oil and has a zesty citrus scent. Lather up in the bath or shower using hands or a bath lily. Rinse thoroughly.

  • Lather-rich
  • Fresh citrus scent

Ingredients:

Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Limonene, Sodium Chloride, Parfum, Benzyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Mel, Sodium Benzoate, Citrus Medica Limonum Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Benzophenone-4, Citral, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Disodium EDTA, Denatonium Benzoate, CI 19140, CI 15985.

The way I see it:
The bottle is made of sturdy plastic and has a flip top cover.
I don’t know how something can be soap free and lather so much.
It has a soft scent that stays on for at least half an hour after your bath.
It does not dry out the skin and hence it is apt for normal to dry skin.
It takes some taking off because it’s a body wash but nothing out of the ordinary.

OTHER PRODUCTS IN THE SWEET LEMON RANGE:

  • Sweet Lemon Soap – Bar – 175 for 100 gms
  • Sweet Lemon Beautifying Oil – INR 895 for 100ml
  • Sweet Lemon Whip Body Lotion – INR 595 for 250 ml
  • Sweet Lemon Lip Butter – INR 350 for 10 ml

Yup, the prices have all gone up! : (

Like TBS says “Use together with other Sweet Lemon Bath and Body products in a layering regime to maximize the combined skin care benefits, and to enjoy the delicate summery scent for increased duration”.

The ‘Yay’ factors:
  • TBS does NOT TEST ON ANIMALS (so it says)
  • Well known, high quality brand
  • Great for normal to dry skin
  • Does not contain too many harmful ingredients
  • Has some good natural ingredients
  • Soap free Body Wash
  • Lovely and travel friendly packaging
  • Great scent
  • All three products do what they claim

The ‘Nay’ factors:

  • Pricey
  • Not for oily skinned women
  • Available at TBS stores in select malls in select Indian cities
  • Too many fakes in the market
It’s truly a wonderful range and yes, what a scent!
I’d give this range a 5/5.
HnB Edit: I love citrusy fragrances.. particularly in summers. Nothing like them to zest up my morning blues or evening fatigue in the hot months. I am definitely gonna pick up atleast one product from this range, thanks to u Chris.. 🙂
