The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Shower Gel – Review!

Hello everyone!I wanted to review The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Shower Gel today.

I picked this mini shower gel during the TBS sale during March this year. Had placed it somewhere and totally forgot about this too.

I am travelling a lot off late. So searched for this handy pack for my travel and have been using this regularly these days.

INR 120 for 60 ml. (This is the price after discount..Original price is close to INR 200)

Aqua, SLES, Sodium Chloride, Acrylates Copolymer, Glycerin, Benzyl alcohol, Lauryl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Fragrance, Styrene, Honey, Maltodextrin, Sodium hydroxide, Salicylic acid, Sodium Cocoabutter amphoacetate, Disodium EDTA, Sorbic acid, Benzophenone-2, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit extract, C11-15 Pareth-40, C11-15 Pareth-7, Yellow 6.

It comes in a cute brown-tinted plastic container with a brown flip-open lid. The packaging is sturdy and non-messy. Safe to carry around during travel also.

It is also good for trial purposes to test a smaller size & then purchase the bigger version upon liking!

The container when empty can be refilled with some other product like a body lotion, cleansing milk or another shower gel too…

What the product claims:

Made with community fair trade honey from Ethiopia.

The way I see it:

This is my first ever product with vanilla fragrance. I liked the fragrance of this product at the counter and decided to pick it up.

The fragrance is the first thing you will notice about this – it has a pleasant vanilla fragrance. It is soothing and not overwhelming. Sensitive noses may not like it though.

I kinda get a mild cinnamon fragrance too from the shower gel – but the label does not mention about its presence. Since I am a first timer with a vanilla product, I may be incorrect about it too.

A coin sized quantity (as shown in the pic below) is good enough for a single wash using a loofah. A little quantity is good enough for one wash, so the product lasts longer.

I have been using this body wash for the past 3 weeks regularly and have not managed to complete even 50% of it.

Without a loofah one needs more of the product.

The shower gel lathers very well and the fragrance is something to relish. But it feels a little slimy post wash and one needs excess water to get rid of the feeling.

The fragrance doesn’t linger on the skin for long. You could sense it probably for 10 minutes post wash. Acutally the fragrance gets transferred to the bath towel 🙂

It does not dry out the skin like soap, so one doesn’t need to run for a body lotion immediately. I think this is due to the honey present in the product, which is a natural moisturizer.

But a moisturizer is not to be skipped.

Overall, it is just an average shower gel, that lathers well with some divine vanilla fragrance and does not dry out the skin essentially. The drawbacks would be that it feels slimy on the skin & the fragrance vanishes in a jiffy.

The ‘Yes’ factors:

  • Cute, sturdy packaging
  • Travel friendly, non-messy
  • Enticing vanilla fragrance
  • Lathers well
  • Does not dry the skin

The ‘Nay’ factors:

  • Slimy on the skin
  • Strong fragrance – not many would prefer it
  • Fragrance doesn’t linger on the skin
  • Pricey for the quantity

My 2 cents on TBS Sale:

If you buy a bigger shower gel even without offer, the price would be less than the cumulative amount of the mini version of the same shower gel… Yes! I did my math and request you to do next time…

Unless it is a great product with some rave reviews, do not pick these mini versions – since you will get bored & would long for the product to get over (even for a small size!)

Off late there has been many rounds about TBS stores tampering with product expiry dates and selling tester pieces. These mini-versions come out mostly during the sale to make some quick money. So beware!

Repurchase? – No! I am already bored with the fragrance by now.

Recommend? – Must try for people who love the exotic vanilla fragrance.

Have you used this shower gel? What’s your take on this?
