Play is Sephora’s monthly subscription box which everyone must be pretty much aware by now! They recently launched the Play by Sephora All Star Edition 2017, second in the series of annual one-off boxes with samples from luxury brands.
I received my box couple of days back and presenting the unboxing post today in the blog.
PLAY BY SEPHORA ALL STAR EDITION 2017
PRICE – $20
This box was initially listed only for the VIB rouges last year and this time around too. But this time they opened up for VIBs and Beauty Insiders too from the next day onwards.
As I mentioned earlier, this is just a one time purchase and not part of the monthly subscription plan that is available for $10 each.

The mystery that revolves around this All Star Edition is good enough to make you go pick one for yourself.

Contents of Play By Sephora All Star Edition 2017 includes –
- AmorePacific Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Creme
- Dior Diorshow Mascara in Black
- Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer
- SK-II Facial Treatment Essence
- Tom Ford Lip Color in Indian Rose
- Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb
All these products came packed in a holographic silver bag and with a deck of tarot-like cards.
Let’s take a quick closer look at each of the products in this box.
AMOREPACIFIC MOISTURE BOUND REJUVENATING CREME
The sample size is of 8 ml. and works to $25 approximately. The full size retails for $150 for 50 ml.
AmorePacific products are hot in the market and are actually quite pricey. This creme has bamboo leaf extracts that rejuvenate the skin and has great reviews everywhere.
DIOR DIORSHOW MASCARA (BLACK)
The sample is of 1.5 ml and worth about $5.
A product with a huge fan following, this mascara has a unique wand and is quite jet black too in color. Excited to try my first ever Dior product!
HOURGLASS MINERAL VEIL PRIMER
4 ml of product approximately priced at $7.
A primer that made ripples in the beauty industry when launched! Hourglass product are totally worth the hype and money so far in my experience and this lightweight, multi-tasking primer definitely deserves some love.
SK-II FACIAL TREATMENT ESSENCE
The sample size is of 10 ml. and is worth $13 approximately.
SK-II is another renowned brand with products that actually work and are again at the luxurious end of the skincare spectrum. This product is an essence lotion to be applied after cleansing and toning but before the moisturizer.
TOM FORD LIP COLOR (INDIAN ROSE)
1g sized lipstick worth about $15-16.
Classy Tom Ford packaging in black & gold was enough for me! The shade Indian rose is a beautiful rose lipstick with a hint of red and looks like will work for all skin tones. I am all excited!
VIKTOR & ROLF FLOWERBOMB PERFUME
The vial quantity is 3 ml. and is worth $9.
Viktor & Rolf is one of the expensive fragrances out there with a cult following for its floral-spicy notes. I am glad I received a sample of this, since I have been wanting to try this actually before I give in to buy a full size.
Coming to the tarot-like cards deck that came along with the box. Read text in below picture on how it works.
These are the three cards I picked, left to right representing past, present and future.
This was definitely fun and motivating!
Totally loved the Play By Sephora All Star Edition 2017 – worth the money according to me. Some may feel these products are too small in size to pay 20 bucks for, but personally all these high end product samples are not available as such outside. You could probably score only some sachets of these, but never this size.
And the deluxe size is decent enough to help one form an opinion on the products, before opting to buy full sizes.
The total value of products calculates to somewhere around $75, not including the bag. I did the math for most products based on the cost of their full sizes.
