It gives me everything I want on a daily basis – medium coverage, lightweight makeup, even skin tone, dewy finish, decent staying power, additional sun protection without a white cast!
Its crazy hot here in the city! I am loving staying indoors munching on some yummy mangoes and cannot bring myself to wear makeup and step out everyday!
But how long can I sit in my den, when work and household chores beckon? So when I have to step out in the sun, I make sure of two things – first is sun protection and two – minimal, breathable makeup.
Maybelline Super BB Cushion Foundation SPF29/PA+++ is one of those products that checks both the boxes for me!
I love cushion foundations for their versatility – skincare + makeup combined in one formula & very travel friendly.
I have been trying the L’oreal Luminous Cushion Foundation for a while now and when Maybelline dropped theirs in the country, I had to try!
PRICE – INR 1200
The product comes in a champagne rose packaging with the cushion foundation, sponge applicator and a mirror. It feels sturdy and of good quality. The sponge is good too.
Unfortunately only two shades are available in India – 02 Light & 03 Natural. I chose 03 Natural since it appeared to me the shade close to my medium skin tone. Only two shades to choose from really upset me!
The product claims to have 60% moisture essence in it besides having decent sun protection.
As you can see, the sponge is housed in a separate section from the actual cushion. When pressed with the sponge, the cushion appears to be of of the consistency of a lotion with medium thickness.
I press the sponge once in the cushion and dab it section-wise on my skin – first concentrating on the cheeks, then forehead and nose area followed by the mouth and neck area. Yes, one might have to go through multiple “press and dab” to achieve a neat finish.
For those who are new to using cushion foundations, rubbing the sponge against the skin will not help and one has to pat the sponge on the skin softly to apply the product like a stippling motion.
Thankfully, the shade 03 Natural suited me! It offers light – medium coverage and manages to conceal light spots on the skin. For dark spots and dark circles, you might still want to go with your favorite concealer.
You don’t need a setting powder with this product (except on areas where you have some concealer). Give some time for the product to settle on the skin and it gives a nice dewy finish. It evens out the skin tone nicely too.
It feels so lightweight on the skin, thus making it great for summers! It makes my thirsty skin looks fresh and dewy with a soft glow.
It stays for a decent 6-7 hours on my skin since I am mostly indoors in office. I don’t touch up in between work hours and at the end of a long day too, the skin looks pretty even though the foundation has managed to wean a little.
Here is me wearing this cushion foundation along with some NYX Gotcha Covered Concealer around the eyes and mouth.
My only qualm would be a little with its pricing, because I do not know how many uses I am going to get out of this slice of a cushion for a base makeup having shelled out 1200 bucks.
I am definitely excited to know how many uses on an average does a cushion foundation give and probably do some easy DIY cushions too with some of my other favorite liquid foundations!
Maybelline doesn’t sell sponges individually at the moment, but I would recommend everyone to get a spare sponge if you are going to be using this on a daily basis.
It takes a while for the sponge to dry when washed and also if you are someone who is not regular with usage or accidentally dropped it during application, a spare does come handy.
