Maybelline Colorsensational Jewels Lipstick in Berry Brilliant – Review, Swatches & LOTD!

Hello everyone…Jumpstarted the week today? Me too.. 🙂

Maybelline Colorsensational Jewels Lipstick in Berry Brilliant is the product to be reviewed in this post today.

These are the latest offerings from Maybelline India in some 7 great shades as follows:

  • Amethyst Ablaze – 591
  • Berry Brilliant – 996
  • Refined Wine – 82
  • Rubylicious – 630
  • Pink Tourmaline – 1433
  • Fuchsia Crystal – 994
  • Red Garnet – 631

All these lipsticks are specially made for Indian skin tones – Maybelline claims.

I picked 3 of these lipsticks – Fuchsia Crystal (already reviewed HERE), Berry Brilliant & Rubylicious.

Price:

INR 350 for 3.9 g

Packaging:

All the lipsticks in this range come in a pink transparent plastic cap with a spiral, multi-reflect shine and the usual silver lipstick holder.

The cap fits snugly to the holder – so no mess while carrying around.

What the product claims:

Illuminated color comes from deep jewelucent pigments and comes in 8 different shades.

Though only 7 shades are available in the market presently.

The way I see it:

If you had read my review on Fuchsia Crystal, you will already know what my review is going to be.

The lipstick looks a little dry in the holder, but glides easily on the lips and can cover up pigmentation in just one swipe.

Berry Brilliant is a deep-berry to plum shade with blue undertones. It gives a mild glossy finish to the lips and has no shimmer.

In fact – none of the lipsticks in this range contain shimmer! (Love!!)

This shade has good depth of color I feel – it looks more plum on me, whereas looks berry on my friend.

Basically it looks like berry on fair-skinned & plummish on wheatish to dusky skin tones. Thus, it is a great shade for all skin tones and a beautiful shade to own.

With 2-3 swipes one can build to the desired color & cover pigmentation as well.

See swatches below of this lipstick on me:

Under natural light – 1 swipe & 3 swipes

I think this would be a budget dupe of similar shades from high-end brands like MAC, Chanel or Illamasqua.

This would be a great lipstick for monsoon or winter by the way, but might look a little OTT in summers –  though one can always wear it like a lip stain.

It is creamy & moisturising, does not bleed or settle into lines also.

This shade stayed a little more on me than Fuchsia Crystal for about 4 hrs., without any intake in between.

Under flash – 4 swipes & 1 swipe

When it fades, it leaves a nice plum tint on my lips.

Overall, yet another great buy and a versatile & deep shade that suits most Indian skin tones that is moisturising as well.

Here is how it looks on my lips:

The ‘Yes’ factors:

  • Sturdy & attractive packaging
  • Creamy & moisturising
  • Will suit most skin tones
  • Looks berry on fair-skinned
  • Looks plum on medium-dusky toned
  • Superbly pigmented
  • Good staying power
  • Makes lips appear fuller

The ‘Nay factors:

Very tough to get one.. It has everything one looks for in a lipstick! 🙂

HnB rating: 5/5
