MAC LipGelee in Lu-Be-Lu

By Christina.I happened to get a surprise gift from my mother the other day.

She sent me a whole set of MAC products and some perfumes from Kuwait. One of them, is this MAC Lipgelee in Lu-Be-Lu.

Now this is the first time that I actually had my own MAC products and I was pretty excited to try one of their lips products.

Quantity: 15 ml.Price: 14$ (in Kuwait)

The packaging is simple. Sturdy plastic tube with a longer than usual black screw on cap.

What the product claims:A soft jelly-textured glosser for the lips. Fab to apply. Squeezes on. Distributes evenly and easily.

Moisturizes and conditions the lips. Makes them look, wet, shiny, super-lush!

Comes in a wide range of sheer, soft tints.

The way I see it:

I love glosses more than lipsticks and I like them to be non-sticky.

I was hoping I would not have to smear it over my lips because I hate that and was so happy to see a doe foot applicator. Now you know why the cap is longer than usual.

One has to hold it comfortably in the hand to apply the product. So, as I was saying, it was going to be easy to apply. The applicator picked up enough of product for the top and bottom lip with two dips into the container.

You can also find it as a squeeze tube with a screw-on cap and a different nozzle which is a slanted applicator on the tube itself. I guess this is what they released in the Gulf.

I had to try it on my lips and found it absolutely non sticky. It went on nice and smooth because the texture is creamy, yet fluid.

It also has a nice scent. Vanilla!!!I found this MAC Lipgelee moisturizing enough and better than most glosses.

It’s not moisturizing like a balm but just enough to keep you going for about 2 hours without a meal. Seems OK to me.The color payoff or pigmentation is very sheer. Number 18 the shade that I have is well, hardly pigmented when applied to my lips.

You can see from the swatch how colored it is but on my lips one can hardly see any pink.

Here is how it looks on my lips –
I feel I can dupe this sheer, shiny gloss with something similar from a drug store brand.I don’t think it’s wise to pay for just a name! That is how I feel but there are those with a fetish for brands and one can’t help it…. 😉

The ‘Yay’ factors:

· Very good internationally reputed brand

· Non-sticky lip gloss

· Moisturising

· Glossy

· Nice doe-foot applicator

· Easy to hold and apply

· Colours the lips evenly

· Nice scent that is not overpowering

· Sturdy packaging

· Travel friendly

The ‘Nay factors:

· Tests on animals

· Pricey

· Colour won’t suit many Indian skin tones

· Not long lasting. Have to touch-up.

· Only available at MAC stores in select cities in India

HnB rating: 2.5/5

Recommend? – I got it for free so I was happy with it. I didn’t keep it because it is a waste for my skin tone. Makes me look like a zombie and you can see that for yourself. If I had to pick up a lipgelee, it would be of a darker shade but then considering the overall value add to my life, I would never buy one for myself.

HnB Ed – I m loving the shade, but I am more of a lipstick person… Lovely pics Chris.. I m so very liking the window opening to a garden.. so refreshing it looks in the picture only! As u rightly mentioned, even I would never shell out big bucks on a lip gloss 🙂
