The packaging is the biggest highlight of the product… its retro, its classy, its modern, its girly! 🙂
The shade of the stain is visible in the middle where the lid meets the container. The lid screws down & snugs fit too with a snap.
The sponge applicator is unique too.. its leaf-shaped & is slightly hollow in the middle.
Something worth mentioning about the applicator is that – it is slanted backwards to help with proper application over the bulges & the corners of the lips!
The way I see it:
The fact that Maybelline Colorsensational High Shine Glosses didn’t interest me was not only that I am more of a lipstick person, but also because I had this golden baby lying over my arms! 😀
I am going through my coral phase now & had to pick Coral Tattoo amongst the 12 shades available in this range.
The shade is a lovely coral with bright red undertones. Doesn’t look neonish at all. Would suit most skin types according to me.
2 dips are necessary to complete 1 coat of the stain all over the lips. A single coat offers sheer, glossy finish.
My pigmented (upper) lips were not happy with just one swipe though.
2 coats is good enough to give good amount of coverage and full-blown color to the lips.
It is non-sticky & highly glossy plus does not feel heavy on the lips too, as claimed by the brand.
Its somewhere in between a liquid lipstick & lip gloss – hence probably the name ‘stain’!!??
This one lasted 4-5 hrs. easily on me including lunch! After the 5th hour it left a strong reddish-orange even tint on my lips.
Dupe Alert!
L’oreal Color Caresse Wet Shine Stains are known to be closer dupes of YSL Vernis a Levres Glossy Stains.
L’oreal’s packaging is much more classier than its matron – YSL!
The shade in concern ‘Coral Tattoo’ is a dupe for YSL Glossy Stain in ‘Orange de Chine’.
While YSL retails for $32-35 in the US, L’oreal tugs your pocket only for $8-10.
The slanted applicator is also a rip-off from YSL Glossy stain 😀
The ‘Yay’ factors:
  • Dupe for YSL Glossy Stain
  • Great quality at 1/4th price of high-end brands
  • Classic packaging
  • Unique applicator
  • Beautiful coral shade with  red undertones
  • Glossy, sheeny finish
  • Would suit most skin tones
  • Can be worn alone or over a lipstick
  • Stays put for 4 hrs. easily with food & drinks on me
  • Leaves a nice orangey-red tint behind
  • Doesn’t dry out lips at the end of the day
  • Does not bleed or feather
The ‘Nay’ factors:
  • Pigmented lips may need 2-3 coats depending on pigmentation level
  • Need to wait atleast 30-45 seconds before you go for the next coat for uniform application
  • Not yet available in India
  • Shipping costs to India through eBay is quite high
Recommend? – Highly.. Even non-gloss lovers will like it.
Repurchase? – I would love to check out the shades personally once they are launched in India. This online purchase didn’t disappoint me though! 🙂
I am just wondering when & for how much these are gonna retail for in India? 🙂Tut! Tut! Update! (Jan 2014) – These classy babies are now available in India for INR 499 only! Go grab yours! The shade names are different.. Coral Tatto is ‘Juliette’ here…
