California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) started off in Beverly Hills and later spread across the country and to the world. They are famous for their international take on pizzas and other foods with a Californian twist to them.
Its a great place for family get-together or business meetings in a casual setting.
This post is on my dining and food experience at CPK, Beachwood OH located inside the Legacy Village.
CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN, BEACHWOOD OH
CPK is located right in the middle of the courtyard inside Legacy Village (Lyndhurst/Beachwood) alongside various other great eateries and shopping outlets.
As we entered the restaurant we were greeted promptly and showed our seats. We were handed menu cards before someone could attend to us.
We were served iced water since we did not opt for any drinks (We had some chai just a little while back at home).
I don’t recall the name of the person who took care of our orders, but he was warm and friendly.
The restaurant is amply lit and is quite spacious. Their open kitchen gives you a good glimpse of your pizza getting made or drink getting ready and even the pizza getting in and out of the wood-fired hearth.
This place is kid-friendly too. They hand kids some puzzle and coloring pages with couple of crayons to keep them engrossed until food comes their way.
We were a group of four including my little boy and opted to go all vegetarian that night for dinner.
While we were deciding on what to go for from the menu, some lightly toasted baguette slices were served with herb & garlic infused olive oil as complimentary starters. The baguette slices were fresh and soft, but the infused oil took the trophy home!
We opted for Spinach Artichoke Dip ($11.69) from the Appetizers menu, that gets served hot with white corn & blue corn tortilla chips made in-house. This is a CPK chef special item on the menu!
The Spinach Artichoke Dip had the perfect consistency and tasted perfect with the medium-hot tortillas chips. It was a perfect blend of flavors from spinach, artichoke tidbits, cheese and herbs. Also feels quite heavy on the tummy.
Being in CPK, we wanted to try their pizzas than anything else on the menu. So, directly opted for Spicy Chipotle Chicken ($13.99) pizza minus the chicken.
Spicy Chiptole Pizza is a Mexican chipotle takeover of the classic Italian original hand-tossed pizza crust. As someone who personally loves Mexican food and Chipotle in particular, I enjoyed the pizza to bits. To me, it was like Indian chaat meets Mexican chipotle meets Italian pizza!
The cilantro-mayo like sauce that was served with this pizza was bursting with flavors. It reminded me of Tahini – so we have Mediterranean making an entry into this melange of international flavors. Ho ho!
Our second choice for pizza that night was Tostada, another Mexican-ized pizza with a thin crust.
Tostada ($13.99) was loaded with crisp lettuce and tortilla strips, black beans, melted Cheddar & Monterey Jack alongside some house-made herb ranch baked in their hearth to perfection! It gets served with some flame-roasted salsa.
Honestly, Tostada is for people who love lettuce! It looks and feels like you are eating one salad and not pizza! My dining partners enjoyed this pizza a little less than the Spicy Chipotle one. I personally love crisp lettuce and so enjoyed a good slice of it.
A very healthy pizza that one is and fills you up in no time on may be a little less calories. The herbaceous tomato salsa again tasted yummy with the pizza and with the tortilla chips from the appetizer too.
Overall, it was a hearty meal and we enjoyed whatever we ordered with some impeccable service from the CPK staff.
CPK also has a great array of gluten-free pizzas, the famous California flatbreads, soups & salads, pastas & sandwiches and power bowls.
They also have a separate kid-friendly menu with some of their favorite pizza toppings and menu items in reduced portions and price.
California Pizza Kitchen is a great place to be if you personally love experimenting with your food and look forward to a melange of international flavors at one seating.
From this visit of mine, I think its a great take on Mexican flavors on Italian pizza, right here in America and still each aspect of it originally and tastefully done!
